I’ve been in the industry since 2018, and for the past few months, I’ve been building my own home studio. Or rather, have had people build the studio for me.
But what’s important is that I have my home studio, and you can see it right here.
It’s not yet fully done, but it’s built, and that’s important because I’m here to answer a question.
Do You Need a Soundproof Studio?
And that question is, “Do I need to have a soundproof recording space or studio?”
And I’m going to tell you now, no you don’t. That’s right, no, you don’t need a soundproof studio.
Background Noise and Soundproofing
This place is not fully soundproof. It’s not fully soundproofed.
I’m not sure if you can hear it, but well, I heard something right there. I can hear sounds from my kitchen, let’s say, a few meters away.
I can hear sounds from the road, some motorcycles or some cars passing by, and I can hear that. And if I can hear that, I assume that my mic can pick it up too.
But still, it’s fairly quiet; it’s still really muted and it’s soft enough that either my mic actually doesn’t pick it up, even if I can hear it, or it’s soft enough that once I process the audio, or someone else processes the audio, it’s barely even audible.
The Importance of a Quiet Space
So, I’m telling you again, you do not need a studio that is 100% soundproof.
That said, you do still need a space that’s fairly quiet.
You know, this place is fairly quiet. I don’t think you can hear a lot of background noise here.
You might hear, if I switch on the AC, you might hear a slight hum.
If I have a computer on, maybe it depends on what model it is or how fast it’s running.
And maybe if there are people in the living room, you might hear them, maybe not.
But the point is, your space just has to be fairly quiet.
The Need for Acoustic Treatment
And of course, it has to be treated. And this room right now is not treated.
I mean, there are panels here, but they’re still covered in plastic.
But then again, here’s the thing: treatment, that’s a whole different question.
That’s a whole different video.
And I’m still in the process of producing that, but stay tuned. We’ll answer that question as well very soon.

Do You Need a Soundproof Studio?
At ang tanong na yun ay, “Kailangan ko ba ng soundproof recording space o studio?”
At sasabihin ko na sa inyo, no, hindi mo kailangan. That’s right, hindi mo kailangan ng soundproof studio.
Background Noise and Soundproofing
Hindi ganap na soundproof ang lugar na ito. Hindi ito fully soundproofed.
Hindi ko sure kung naririnig mo, pero ayun, may narinig ako dun. Naririnig ko ang mga tunog from my kitchen, my ilang metro lang ang layo.
Naririnig ko rin ang mga tunog mula sa kalye, tulad ng mga motor o mga kotse na dumadaan, at naririnig ko yun. At kung dinig ko yun, I assume na dinig din yun ng aking mic.
Pero kahit ganun, medyo tahimik pa rin yun; it’s still really muted and it’s soft enough para hindi ito makuha ng aking mic, kahit naririnig ko ito, or it’s soft enough na kapag na-process na ang audio, o may iba pang mag-process ng audio, hindi ito gaanong dinig.

So I’m telling you again, hindi mo kailangan ng 100% soundproof na studio.
Pero kailangan mo pa rin ng space na medyo tahimik.
You know, medyo tahimik ang lugar na ito. I don’t think naririnig ng masyado ang background noise dito.
Baka marinig mo, kung i-on ko ang aircon, baka marinig mo ang slight na hum.
Kung may computer akong naka-on, baka depende sa model nito o kung gaano ito kabilis tumakbo.
At baka kung may mga tao sa living room, baka marinig mo sila, baka hindi.
Pero ang point ay, ang space mo ay kailangan lang medyo tahimik.
The Need for Acoustic Treatment
At siyempre, kailangan i-treat ang kwarto. At ang kwartong ito ngayon ay hindi pa treated.
Meron namang mga panels dito, pero naka-plastic pa rin sila.
Pero eto na nga, ang treatment, ibang usapan yun.
