Introduction

What’s up mga kapitVAHay!

My name is Christa and I’m a member of Voice Actors at Home PH.

The Big Question: Do Voice Actors Need to Pay Taxes?

So, ano nga ba tong tanong na to?

The answer is, syempre naman, kapitVAHay!

One of the variations for different types of businesses is providing services.

And if you are doing voice over work, your business is providing service which is voice over.

This also includes when you dub for studios, you dub for localized content and movies, films kasama yon.

You’re providing services in general.

So yun ang negosyo mo, ang produkto mo is yung serbisyo mo, which is voice over.

The Law and Taxes

Kasama to sa National Internal Revenue Code.

O, di ba? Oo, nasa batas yan.

Registering Your Business

Paying Your Taxes

Bye.

Introduction

What’s up, my KapitVAHays?

My name is Christa and I’m a member of Voice Actors at Home PH.

I’ve noticed that many of my friends or acquaintances who are interested in entering the field of voice over or want to make voice acting their job and often ask me about it.

Actually, maybe three out of five of my friends who want to enter this industry ask me about it.

And I thought of just making a video so that you, or those who are interested or starting in the voice acting industry might be interested here.

It can help you, and you can find an immediate answer.

The Big Question: Do Voice Actors Need to Pay Taxes?

So, what is this question?

They ask if I’m doing voice over, do I need to pay taxes?

The answer is, of course, KapitVAHays!

One of the variations for different types of businesses is providing services.

And if you are doing voice over work, your business is providing a service, which is voice over.

This also includes when you dub for studios, dub for localized content and movies; films are included.

You’re providing a service in general.

So that’s your business. Your product is your service, which is voice over.

The Law and Taxes

So the question is, if you need to pay taxes, of course.

All of our earnings have a corresponding tax that is deducted from us.

This is included in the National Internal Revenue Code.

See? Yes, it’s in the law.

So if we don’t follow the law, of course we can be reported or we can even go to jail for this.

When we are just starting, we don’t know this but it’s better that we know so here we are now, keeping you informed.

Registering Your Business

So yes, if you are providing services as a voice over actor, you need to pay the corresponding tax for it.

How will I pay taxes when I don’t have a business?

The first thing you need to do is register your business so it becomes a legitimate business.

So here, you need to register your business with the BIR so you can have a business certificate and you can issue an official receipt.

This is included in what you get when you register your business.

And of course, when your business is registered, future clients will trust you more, right?

And all your transactions are protected by the government because your business is registered.

Paying Your Taxes

And because we want to be good citizens, of course we follow the law, right?

Anything that counts as income, anything that generates income, when you earn, when you are paid, we should pay the corresponding taxes to the government.

How much? We’ll discuss later because that’s math.

For now, that’s what I’ll share with you.

Final Thoughts

And if you’ve reached this point, thank you very much and just stay tuned.

Just stay tuned because we will try to answer most of the questions of starting voice actors like us before.

And if you are a starting voice actor or even if you’ve been a voice actor here in the Philippines for a long time, we invite you to join the Voice Actors at Home PH community on Facebook.

Just search for it, it’s easy to find.

You’ll learn a lot there and of course it’s a community so you’ll have a reference, additional reference on how to navigate your voice over journey, right?

So that’s it for now. We’ll discuss more in the next videos. Bye.
